Green Beans, Potatoes, And Bacon One Pot Meal

Green Beans, Potatoes, And Bacon One Pot Meal

This green beans, bacon, and potatoes meal is not only incredibly simple to make, it is also packed with essential nutrients to help keep you strong and healthy – something which will be essential to your survival during a SHTF event.

If you live on a survival homesteading retreat, you should be able to raise all of the ingredients (except some of the spices) necessary to make this survival one pot meal. If you do not raise milk producers or your own hogs, stock up on bacon and butter when it goes on sale and preserve it for long term use.

How much of each ingredient you use will depend on how large of meal you intend to make or the dimensions of the pot you have on hand. Below are the ingredient amounts I use when making enough of this survival one pot meal for about 12 people to eat not as an entrée, but a side dish.

Green Beans, Potatoes, And Bacon One-Pot-Meal Recipe

  • 1 quart green beans
  • ½ pound bacon or more, to taste
  • 6 – 8 potatoes whole
  • 1 tablespoon garlic
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 1 ½ teaspoons salt or to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter real butter, NOT margarine
  • Pour the green beans (including the juice) into the pot. A crock pot works well for this recipe also.

  • Wash, and chunk the potatoes.

  • Place the potatoes on top of the green beans in the pot, followed by the butter.

  • Sprinkle the spices on top of the ingredients in the pot.

  • Place the bacon on top of the ingredients already in the pot.

  • Stir all of the ingredients together thoroughly.

  • Bring the green bean, potato, and bacon casserole to a boil for several minutes.

  • Turn the heat down to a simmer for approximately one hour – stir stirring occasionally. If making the one pot survival meal in a crock pot, heat on high for four hours.

Some members of my tribe make this dish with varying ingredients and the result is equally delicious. Possible variations include stirring in sour cream about 10 minutes before the cooking process is complete, and adding diced onions to the ingredients list.
